SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18 WAS THE DAY TO BE IN CHOTEAU Montana, to learn about what makes a great goat (from a producer's as well as a processor's viewpoint). The animal, the environment, how they interact and how to optimise the positive traits in our goats were explored and discussed.

Mike Lange from Texas,who for 18 years was ranch foreman for the Syfans' Three Mill Ranch production of pure Spanish goats (and sheep and cattle) and is currently an an order buyer at Gillespie's Fredericksburg auction as well as an auctioneer, shared his experience in both the raising/management and marketing of meat goats. Brian Payne of Alberta, Canada was involved with the original Boer goat importations in 1993 and was one of the first importers of Savannah goats in 1999 shared what he has seen and sees now in North America's meat goat industry. Gamal Zayed, owner and manager of Halal Farms USA processing facility in Shannon, Illinois shared his opinions about the goats from the end user's perspective. Mike, Brian and Gamal told us what they liked and disliked about each animal and why, looking at the goats for performance. Dr. Steve Hart of Langston University joined us at the Gathering to lend us his mineral and parasite expertise.
